The basic problem is that the stronger the authentication, the more we rely on it for protection, and the more we can lose if it is compromised. This is especially true of biometrics, which many believe to be the ultimate in protection.
So let us return to Kim Cameron. He is a cool guy. I saw him give a keynote address with the title “Why Cyberspace Needs Cardspace” at the CSI Conference in Washington last November (2007). It would appear that Microsoft changed the name from Infocard to Cardspace … or is it the reverse? A rose would smell as sweet …
Kim is a bright, articulate, entertaining and thoughtful person, wrapped in a somewhat irreverent, aging hippie package. His “Seven Laws of Identity” have placed him at the leading edge of identity and access management (IAM), which is an area that has had surprising difficulty in succeeding, given the great potential exposure to fraud and theft due to poor access management systems and procedures. You can read about Kim’s seven laws in the article “The Laws of Identity” at http://www.identityblog.com/stories/2005/05/13/TheLawsOfIdentity.pdf
