Might it give them a false sense of security?
While I have never been robbed, I know people who have. When the thieves robbed the house they systematically cycled through draws, dressers and other furniture. They also threw all materials they searched into the center of the room to make sure they didn’t search them again. Such a systematic method of searching would probably render a “can-safe” useless as they would check for them as they “check off” items their (real or imaginary) search criteria list.
Frankly, I use my bank’s safe deposit box to hold all of my valuables and I do not keep cash or jewelry at home. Unfortunately I cannot put my computer, TV or most other electronic valuables in either my bank’s safe deposit box or a can-safe.
