WordPress founder passes 2″ knife through airport security 3x

WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg reports that he passed a 2″ knife through airport security 3 times before being caught the fourth time. The knife was accidentally in his luggage (“forgotten”, I assume, from another trip.)

This seems to me to be a lot of monkey business… I was on Kip’s side when interviewed by Schneider Schneier : it’s difficult to consistently implement effective security measures as well as make elephants dance. But, what gives recently?

Hey Matt, if you read this, thanks for WordPress!

    Don’t let Schneier catch you calling him ‘Schneider’, your name is also hard to get right. :)

    Airport security is just terrible, there needs to be a whole new way of thinking. My favorite example of this has to be Mike Figgis, British film director coming through LAX: “I’m here to shoot a pilot”, he said. Doh!

    But, 6 HOURS they kept him there questioning him. Serves him right maybe, but perhaps that’s why the terrorists (and WordPress founders) are getting through. You don’t often hear them saying: “Yes, I’m here to intentionally cause damage to airplanes.”

    A bit of common sense? Sadly none too common.

    @Rob

    That’s a great story that was actually proven to be inaccurate. Click here.

    I love quoting it though!

    Doh. And there’s me telling people to get their facts straight before posting.

    I’ll get back to you after I’ve finished claiming my share of $10,000,000.00 from a new Nigerian friend of mine…
