Injured 9/11 NYFD Lieutenant’s ID stolen by rehab “friend”

A crime of opportunity.

“[Giordano] claimed he got his heart ailment from being trapped in the rubble, so everyone felt patriotic towards him,” MacMurdo said. “We would push each other through physical therapy so that we could someday get our lives back together.”

When the ambulette smashed into the abutment of the 59th Street Bridge, throwing MacMurdo through the windshield and leaving him unconscious on the pavement, his leg severed, Giordano told police the two were brothers, so they gave him MacMurdo’s wallet.

Over the next five months, while MacMurdo started over with his rehabilitation, Giordano ran up tens of thousands of dollars in debt under MacMurdo’s name, even obtaining “five or six” new credit cards, police and MacMurdo said.
