A series of planters lining the block have been in front of Trump Tower on 5th Avenue for a bit so this is not new news.
While it
might be possible to argue that the planters are there for crowd control, very few — if any — 5th avenue buildings have such physical barriers. In addition, the barriers wrap around onto 56th street side of Trump’s building.
Other NYC buildings, such as the Citi building in midtown and general Wall Street area, also have these kinds of bollards and other physical protection mechanisms. (Technically the planters in front of Trump’s building are not bollards, though.)
While this could be considered a negative attribute, it could also be one that demonstrates value too.
Here is a good primer on physical building barrier security in city areas.
